R8 TALKS: Imposter Syndrome

Join us at our next R8 Talks! session held on December 8, 2021, at 10:30-11:30 a.m. Alaska | 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Pacific | 12:30-1:30 p.m. Mountain.

“I’ve run a game on everybody, and they’re going to find me out.” This quote from Maya Angelou demonstrates that no one is immune to the effects of Imposter Syndrome, least of all our students. Sentiments of imposterism are pervasive throughout post-secondary and seem even more so in high-achieving students. This session will provide an overview of imposterism in general, anecdotal evidence from advising students competitive programs, and how we as academic advisors can help reduce these impacts as early as possible.

“Who do you think you are? Dealing with Imposter Syndrome in Post-Secondary”

Discussion facilitated by Bri Harvey of Mount Royal University.

Oct. 9th R8 Talks! Information

Our next community-building opportunity called “R8 Talks!” is happening October 9th, 11:30 am Pacific Time!
We will have an interactive and engaging conversation on:
  • Brainstorming your presentation ideas
  • Recognizing your specialized expertise
  • Preparing your proposal outline and executive summary
All too often we gloss over the conference “Call for Proposals” even when we have so much to offer our colleagues. Maybe our nerves get in our way or we don’t want to experience rejection… or perhaps we think we don’t have anything to offer.
This workshop will address these issues and more. We will strategize ways to get past your barriers. You will actually develop a custom proposal that you can submit by the upcoming deadlines (Pre-conference proposals due 10/1, Poster and Concurrent Session proposals due 11/15). Please make sure you have your writing supplies ready!
To prepare for this talk, we recommend you review this NACADA resource: https://www.nacada.ksu.edu/Events/International-Conference/Proposals/Tutorial.aspx#Tutorial_Anchor_1
Talks will happen online via Zoom. You can download and import the calendar invitation to all of these Talks by clicking here: https://zoom.us/meeting/742254235/ics?icsToken=3da97984863888e62cb07577963c09ad24066ca0d1508fe3d843217cf811a47b
We look forward to talking with you soon!
